Anaheim Hills is a planned community occupying the eastern portion of the city of Anaheim, in Orange County, California. Stretching across a series of rolling hills and canyons, it borders Yorba Linda to the north and the Santa Ana Canyon, with State Routes 91 and 241 providing convenient freeway access to the rest of Orange County and the Inland Empire. Though administratively part of Anaheim, the community has its own distinct identity, shaped by hillside terrain, open space, and a deliberately low-density suburban character that contrasts with the flatlands of central Anaheim. The area began to take its modern form in the early 1970s, when developers introduced what is credited as the first residential use of landform grading, a technique that sculpts the landscape to create gentle, buildable hillside lots while preserving a natural appearance. The result was a community of homes on large lots with hiking trails, a golf course, and low densities, a template that has defined Anaheim Hills ever since. The Anaheim Hills Golf Course opened in 1972 and remains a local landmark. The community's natural setting is among its strongest assets. Oak Canyon Nature Center, a 58-acre natural park, preserves one of the region's remaining oak woodlands, with four miles of trails winding through three adjoining canyons alongside a year-round stream. Open space, ridgeline views, and neighborhood parks are woven throughout the area. Public education is provided primarily by the Orange Unified School District, whose Anaheim Hills schools are a key draw for families. The community also sits near the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda and regional parks such as Irvine Regional Park. For residents, Anaheim Hills combines hillside privacy and outdoor access with the convenience of central Orange County, including Disneyland and major employment centers a short drive away.
