High Desert Victor Valley City
Townhouses & Duplexes in Hesperia, CA
Welcome to Hesperia, a High Desert city in the Victor Valley of San Bernardino County, set along the Mojave River near Silverwood Lake.
Hesperia is a city in the Victor Valley region of San Bernardino County's High Desert, roughly 35 miles north of San Bernardino and along the Interstate 15 corridor between the Cajon Pass and Victorville. Sitting at about 3,200 feet of elevation, the city occupies a broad desert landscape where the Mojave River flows through its eastern side and the California Aqueduct crosses from north to south on its way to Silverwood Lake. The area was originally inhabited by the Serrano people, and Spanish missionary-explorer Father Francisco Garcés traveled along the Mojave River in 1776; American ranching settlement followed in the 19th century. Hesperia remained a small, largely rural community for most of its history and was incorporated as a city in 1988. Its growth accelerated with the expansion of the Victor Valley and the broader Inland Empire, as families sought more space and lower costs than the valley and coastal cities to the south. Today it is a sizable High Desert suburb of roughly 103,000 residents, with a character shaped by wide-open lots, desert views, and a working-class, family-oriented population. The city's housing ranges from established in-town neighborhoods to semi-rural areas with larger lots, some zoned for horses and other animals, such as the Golden Arrow Ranchos area. Hesperia Unified School District covers about 140 square miles, serving the city and adjacent High Desert areas. Recreation draws on the surrounding desert and mountains. Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area, just south of the city, offers boating, fishing, hiking, and camping within the San Bernardino Mountains' foothills, while Hesperia Lake and local parks serve daily needs. The city's elevation brings cooler temperatures than the low desert and clear mountain views. For commuters, Interstate 15 provides a direct route to the Cajon Pass and the employment centers of the Inland Empire.
