Pacific Palisades is an affluent coastal neighborhood within the city of Los Angeles, located on the Westside between Santa Monica and Malibu in Los Angeles County. With roughly 25,000 residents spread across about 23 square miles, it has one of the lowest population densities in the city, a reflection of its geography of ocean bluffs, canyons, and open hillside. The neighborhood rises from the Pacific Coast Highway and Sunset Boulevard up into the Santa Monica Mountains, and its identity is built around that dramatic coastal setting, a walkable village center, and a cluster of cultural and natural landmarks that include Will Rogers State Historic Park, Temescal Gateway Park, and the Getty Villa. The community has a distinct structure of smaller districts: the Alphabet Streets near the beach and village, the Riviera and Huntington Palisades on the bluffs, and the hillside areas of Marquez Knolls, the Palisades Highlands, and Rustic Canyon. Palisades Village serves as the walkable commercial and social core. The neighborhood's schools include Los Angeles Unified School District campuses and Palisades Charter High School, a prominent charter school that anchors local education. Pacific Palisades was transformed by the January 2025 Palisades Fire, which burned about 23,448 acres and destroyed a large share of the community's homes, including the Will Rogers ranch house at the state historic park. The area has since entered a long-term rebuilding effort, with new, fire-hardened construction reshaping its neighborhoods. Through that recovery, the Palisades retains the qualities that have long defined it: coastal and mountain recreation, a strong community identity, and a prestigious Westside location within reach of Santa Monica, Brentwood, and the rest of Los Angeles.
